Origins of the Celtic Cross

Saint Patrick was a Christian missionary and is regarded as the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick lived from AD 373-493, and ministered in northern Ireland from AD 433 until his death. Pious legend credits Patrick with banishing snakes from the island, though post-glacial Ireland never actually had snakes. It is suggested that the snakes referred to the serpent symbolism of the Druids. Saint Patrick is also credited with teaching the Irish about the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a 3-leaved clover. Legend also says St. Patrick, while preaching Christianity drew a cross through a Celtic circle symbolic of the moon Goddess. Hence the Celtic cross was born. Today the circle of the cross is viewed as a of God’s endless love. HOME PAGE celtic crosses

What is the meaning of ’tis herself’?

The Irish term “Tis Herself” is an affectionate expression in both the Irish and Scottish language, denoting a woman of importance, usually the lady of the house. It is suggestive of someone announcing the appearance of royalty. ‘Tis herself is usually meant in jest, for a female who thinks she is more important than she really is. Like an real Irish Queen or Irish Princess.  Someone who deserves to wear an Irish tiara. It’s sort of a joke. But as we all know every lady of the the house is really the Queen of home.

Meaning of the Trinity Knot

The trinity knot is the simplest of Celtic Knots representing a triune God. The Celts believed that the trinity, or the number three was special, everything came in three. The three stages of womanhood, maid, mother, and crone. The three elements, earth, fire, and water. in order to make a spiritual connection with the Celts Christianity also embraced this trinity knot to symbolize the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. In modern times the Trinity knot is now interpreted as the Irish love knot. The trinity knot’s interlaced and unbroken lines symbolize spiritual growth, eternal life and undying love.
